If you’re looking for the best insurance value, the first step is to fully understand the auto coverage and policy options in Pennsylvania.
Knowing the ins and outs can help you get all of the insurance you need, while helping you avoid purchasing too much and overspending.
Plymouth Rock Assurance provides all of the guidance and support you need to customize your insurance policy to fit your budget and needs.
Pennsylvania requires all drivers to have certain insurance coverages at minimum levels, including bodily injury, property damage and first party benefits. Yes, it can be confusing. So, here’s what all that means (and the minimum limits you’re required to have):
Bodily injury helps to protect you against liability if you’re held legally responsible for causing injury or death to someone while operating your vehicle.
The minimum requirement is $15,000 per person, $30,000 per accident.
Damage to Someone Else’s Property pays for damage to another person’s property when you, a household member or another authorized driver cause an accident.
Minimum legal requirement: $5,000
First Party Medical Benefits The state also requires drivers to maintain $5,000 worth of medical benefits. This coverage pays the medical bills for you and others who are covered by your policy, regardless of fault, if there are injuries resulting from an accident. The minimum limit is $5,000.
The legally required coverages in Pennsylvania don’t provide any coverage for your car. Without additional coverages, you’re not insured if your car is stolen, if you have damage from hitting a deer or if you have injuries caused by a driver with little or no insurance. Here are just some additional coverage options to consider.
Collision Coverage helps to pay for damage to your car if the accident is a collision between your car and another physical object (like a parking lot light pole or another car). Despite its name, collision insurance does not cover damage from striking an animal.
Comprehensive coverage pays for damage to your car caused by events such as fire, theft or vandalism; in other words, damage caused by something other than a collision.
Substitute Transportation reimburses you for the cost of renting a car or other substitute transportation up to your selected limits if your car is damaged in a covered loss.
Underinsured/uninsured motorist insurance helps to cover your medical bills if you’re in an accident caused by another driver with little or no insurance.
You can also read information about gap insurance which can minimize the financial loss you could suffer when you owe more on a car after an accident, than it is worth.
